In a remarkable medical feat, Aster Medcity, part of the Aster DM healthcare group, has successfully conducted a unique surgery, marking a significant milestone in the field of neuro-urology. This breakthrough is centered around the treatment of overactive bladder syndrome, a condition that affects millions worldwide, according to the Urology Care Foundation.

For most patients, this condition can be managed with medication and lifestyle changes. However, in more severe cases like Hariharan’s, these traditional treatments prove ineffective. This is where the innovative surgical approach of Sacral Neuromodulation comes into the picture.

Involving a collaborative effort from the neurosurgery and urology departments, this surgical procedure entails implanting the InterStim device, similar to a pacemaker, to help regulate sacral nerves responsible for bladder and bowel functions. This state-of-the-art surgery signifies a monumental advancement in the treatment of overactive bladder syndrome.
