Technological Triumph: da Vinci Robotic System Aids in Groundbreaking Pancreatic Surgery at Narayana Health

The medical team led by Dr. Ashwini Kumar Kudari, a distinguished Robotic Surgeon and Surgical Gastroenterologist, utilized the da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery system, developed by Intuitive. He was supported by Dr. Jayant Mulchandani and Dr. Mohammed Shies Sadat.

The patient, a 60-year-old woman, presented with severe abdominal pain due to a complex tumour in the pancreas. After various scans and considering the complicated nature of the tumor, the team opted for a robotic-assisted ampullectomy, a procedure that is minimally invasive compared to traditional methods.

The da Vinci robotic system was integral in this pioneering surgery. With its sophisticated instruments, including a high-definition 3D camera, the system provides surgeons with a magnified view of the surgical site. This enhances visualization, allowing for highly precise movements during the delicate operation.

Dr. Kudari, speaking on the technology involved, said, “With da Vinci’s magnified vision, ease of accessibility, and dexterity, we could make critical clinical decisions during surgery. The success of this surgery underlines the potential of robotic surgery technology in revolutionizing the way we treat periampullary tumors.”

Dr. Jayant Mulchandani further highlighted the significance of the da Vinci system, stating, “With enhanced visualization and robotic assistance, we can achieve precise movements and ensure optimal patient outcomes. This breakthrough will significantly benefit patients by reducing post-operative complications and speeding up recovery times.”
