A Testament of Survival and Resilience: Apollo Hospitals Navi Mumbai’s Eighth Successful Heart Transplant

Apollo Hospitals Navi Mumbai, an advanced multi-speciality hospital in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, recently achieved a significant milestone with its eighth successful heart transplant surgery. This achievement is not only a testament to Apollo’s excellent medical team but also an inspiring story of resilience and survival for the 40-year-old patient suffering from Amyloidosis.

The patient came to Apollo from Buldhana, Maharashtra, experiencing severe chest pain, frequent breathlessness, and fatigue. After a series of investigations, it was revealed that the patient was grappling with Amyloidosis, a rare condition characterized by the accumulation of proteins in the form of abnormal, insoluble fibres. The condition had affected his heart, causing heart failure and necessitating a heart transplant.

The heart transplant surgery took place on April 4th, 2023, following a call about a brain-dead individual at a South Mumbai hospital. Apollo’s expert heart transplant team promptly retrieved the heart, which was transported to Apollo within 46 minutes via a green corridor.

“The patient’s resilience and the unwavering support from his family helped him manage the disease for two years while waiting for a heart donor. This case is an example of the power of medical science, and the importance of organ donation,” said Dr. Sanjeev Jadhav, Consultant, CVTS, Heart & Lung Transplant Surgery at Apollo Hospitals Navi Mumbai.

Emphasizing the critical role of organ donation and the power of resilience, this story serves as a beacon of hope for many individuals battling severe health conditions. It further accentuates the role of world-class healthcare institutions like Apollo in orchestrating such life-altering procedures.
